This craftsman
brace must have been made during a period of federal control of
critical materials, namely, nickel and chromium, both needed during
World War II for manufacture of alloy steels. As a result, it is
zinc plated throughout; it's a nice job, with about 75%
remaining. And no signs of electrolytically induced hydrogen
embrittlement ... The orange lacquer finish on the cocobolo handles is
at about 95% but only 30% of the Craftsman decal remains. If I
had to guess, I'd say this brace was made by Millers Falls, as the
functions of the Hold-All chuck are reproduced faithfully. It
should work just as well as any trademarked Millers Falls brace with
this chuck - and hold all shapes of bit within its grasp. The
mechanical workings aree all in great shape.
