Maj. James Massey of Queenstown: 9.James? or 10.James?
|
At various times, this Major
James Massey is identified as 10.James
Massey, 1772-1843(1), and at
various other times as
9.James Massey, 1746-1795.(2)
|
Adding to this confusion, George
Massey writes: "Major James Massey, of Queenstown, was a brother of
Elizabeth [the wife of Benjamin Massey], and lived in Queenstown.
Major Massey left no sons but several daughters."(3) [This would suggest the
birth date of Major James Massey as c. 1770/5.]
|
So far, I have been unable to
locate any reference that a James Massey was either commissioned Major,
or served as Major; so the commission date remains unknown.

Note. Until more evidence
is unearthed, I don't feel qualified to identify which of these two
James Masseys is actually "Major James Massey, of Queenstown".[Ed.]
