Charted below are two very
interesting sets of records of the family of 37.Elijah
Eleazer
Massey. In the left column are his records as transcribed
from
the family Bible in 1908 by J.G.Massey.(1) In the right-hand
column are his records, as read from the tombstones and transcribed by
Miss Elizabeth Bottomly in 1937.(2)

As the Bible records were
legible and readable, and as reading the tombstone inscriptions was
obviously very difficult; I have used the Bible record dates in this
book.
|
There is one exception; the
tombstones add another son: Robert H. Massey. His birth date was
read as 1856, but as his mother would have been age 50 in 1856, I
believe that the birth date of 1856 was actually a mis-reading of 1836.
