March 19, 1811: Winder Massey of Baltimore, buys for $1.00 the 142 acre tract called Angels Rest
from his grandfather, Elijah Massey of Kent County in the State of
Maryland, previously purchased by Elijah from Cornelius Vansant,
deceased, who in turn had acquired the land from Jacob Gibson. Ann
Massey, mother of Winder, now resides on the same land.
Witnesses: Elijah Vansant and Cornelius Comegys; Ben Chambers is Kent

County etc.: Be it remembered that on the nineteenth day of March,
eighteen hundred and eleven,
the following deed was brought to be enrolled among the records of
Kent County of the tenor and in the words following to wit: This
indenture made this fourth day of March in the year of our Lord eighteen
hundred and eleven
between Elijah Massey of Kent County and state of Maryland of the one
part and Winder Massey of the city of Baltimore and grandson of the said
Elijah Massey of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Elijah Massey
as well for the cause and natural affection which he the said Elijah
Massey bears for him, the said Winder Massey, and also for and in
consideration of the sum of one dollar money of the United States to
him,
the said Elijah Massey in hand paid by the said Winder Massey, the
receipt whereof he, the said Elijah Massey, doth hereby acknowledge and
himself therewith fully satisfied, contented, and paid, hath granted,
bargained, aliened, enfeoffed, released, conveyed, and confirmed, and
doth by
these presents grant, bargain, sell, enfeoff, release, convey, and
confirm
unto him, the said Winder Massey, his heirs, and assigns, forever all
that
part of a tract of land which he, the said Elijah Massey, purchased of a
certain Cornelius Vansant, late of Kent County, deceased, who purchased
of a
certain Jacob Gibson, being part of a tract of land lying and being in
Kent County and state of Maryland aforesaid called and known by the name
of Angels Rest and contained within the following metes and bounds and
whereon Ann Massey, mother to the said Winder Massey, now resides,
beginning to wit, at the original beginning of the aforesaid Angels Rest
where now there is planted a large stone and running from thence four
hundred and twenty
perches West to a parcel of stones at the end of the first line of said
tract of land, thence South fifty four and a half perches, then East
four hundred and twenty perches to
intersect the home line of the original tract of said land, thence North
fifty four perches and a half to the beginning containing and laid out
for one hundred and forty two
acres of land more or less together with all the houses, buildings,
woods, and
underwoods [illegible] and appurtenances whatsoever to the said land
belonging or in any wise appertaining with the reversion and reversions,
remainder and remainders, and any and every part and parcel thereof and
all the estate, right, title, claim, interest, and demand whatsoever
either
in law and equity of him the said Elijah Massey or his heirs of and to
the aforesaid land and premises hereby granted, bargained, and sold, or
meant mentioned or intended so to be, with their and any of their
rights,
members, and appurtenances of him, the said Elijah Massey, unto him the
said Winder Massey and his heirs and assigns. To have and to hold the
said lands and premises and any part and parcel thereof against him,
said
Elijah Massey and his heirs, to the only proper use and behoof of him,
the said Winder Massey, his heirs, and assigns, forever according to the
true intent and meaning of these presents and for no other use, intent,
and purpose whatsoever and the said and every part and parcel thereof
with the appurtenances unto him, the said Winder Massey, his heirs, and
assigns, against him, the said Elijah Massey and his heirs, and against
all
and every other person or persons whatsoever claiming by from or under
him or them are any of them will warrant and forever defend, and
moreover
he, the said Elijah Massey, further covenants and agrees to and with
the
said Winder Massey, his heirs, and assigns, the said lands and premises
and
every part and parcel thereof that he, the said Elijah Massey and his
heirs, will at any time and at all times hereafter at the reasonable
request proper costs and charges of him, the said Winder Massey, his
heirs,
and assigns, make, do, or cause to be made, done, and executed any
other or
further deed or deeds, conveyance and conveyances, in the law for the
more true and perfect conveyance of
the aforesaid lands and premises unto him, the said Winder Massey, his
heirs, or assigns, or as his or their counsel learned in the law, shall
reasonably advise, devise, or require. In witness whereof he, the said
Elijah Massey, hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal the day

The additional word "Massey" was interlined before the sealing and delivering of these presents. Sealed and delivered in the presence of Elijah Vansant Cornelius Comegys On the back of the same deed were the following endorsements written: Received March the fourth, 1811, from Winder Massey one dollar, the consideration within mentioned in full. Testes:Elijah VanSant Cornelius Comegys Kent County, State of Maryland to wit: Be it remembered that on the day of the date of the above and within presents came personally before us, the subscribers, two of the Justices of the Peace of Kent County, aforesaid Elijah Massey, party grantor, and did acknowledge the aforesaid instrument of writing to be his act and deed and the aforesaid lands and premises therein granted, bargained, and sold to be the right and estate of the aforesaid Winder Massey, his heirs, and assigns, forever, according to the true intent and meaning of the said instrument of writing.
