15, 1811 (recorded August 15, 1811): Benjamin Massey, Esquire, of Kent
County, buys for £710 the 142 acre tract called Angels Rest from Winder Massey, gentleman of Baltimore County, who had bought the tract from his grandfather Elijah Massey. County aforesaid. Be it remembered that on the fifteenth day of July
eighteen hundred and eleven the following deed was brought to be
recorded, among the records
of Kent County of the tenor and in the words following to wit: This indenture made the twenty eighth day of June in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and eleven between Winder Massey of the County of Baltimore, gentlemen of the one part, and Benjamin Massey, Esquire, of Kent County and the state of Maryland of the other part. Witnesseth that he, the said Winder Massey, for and in consideration of the sum of seven hundred and ten pounds current lawful money of the said state to him in hand paid or secured to be paid by the said Benjamin Massey, at or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof he the said Winder Massey doth hereby acknowledge, and himself thereof and therewith content, satisfied, and paid and from every part and parcel thereof doth acquit, exonerate, and discharge him, the said Benjamin Massey, his heirs, executors, and administrators, he the said Winder Massey hath granted, bargained, sold, aliened, enfeoffed, delivered, conveyed, and confirmed, and doth by these presents grant, bargain, sell, alien, enfeoff, release, convey, and confirm unto him, the said Benjamin Massey, and to his heirs and assigns forever, all that part of a tract of land which he, the said Winder Massey, purchased and or obtained from his grandfather Elijah Massey, being part of a tract of land lying and being in Kent County in the state of Maryland aforesaid called and known by the name of Angels Rest and contained within the following metes and bounds: Beginning at the original beginning of the aforesaid Angels Rest where there now is planted a large stone and running from thence four hundred and twenty perches West to a panel of stones at the end of the first line of the said tract of land thence South fifty four and a half perches then East four hundred and twenty perches to intersect [illegible] line of the original tract of said land and North fifty four perches and a half to the beginning containing and laid off for one hundred and forty two acres of land more or less together with all the houses, buildings, woods, underwoods, improvements, and appurtenances whatsoever to the said land belonging or in any wise appertaining, with the reversion and reversions, remainder and remainders in every part and parcel thereof with all the estate, right, title, claim, intent, and demand whatsoever either in law or equity of him, the said Winder Massey, or his heirs of in or to the aforesaid lands and premises with all their appurtenances to the same belonging or in anyways appertaining. To have and to hold the aforesaid land hereby granted, bargained, and sold or meant, mentioned, or intended to so be with their and every of their rights, members, and appurtenances, to him, the said Benjamin Massey, his heirs, and assigns, to the only use and behoof of him, the said Benjamin Massey, his heirs, and assigns, forever in the aforesaid Winder Massey for himself and his heirs, executors, and administrators do hereby covenant, grant, and agree to and with the aforesaid Benjamin Massey, his heirs, executors, and administrators, that he, the said Winder Massey and his heirs, the said lands hereby bargained and sold meant or mentioned or intended so to be each and every of their rights, members, and appurtenances to him, the before said Benjamin Massey, his heirs, and assigns, in [illegible] aforesaid against himself the aforesaid Winder Massey and his heirs and all and every of other person or persons whatsoever claiming or shall or may hereafter claim by from or under him or them shall and will warrant and forever hereafter defend in the aforesaid Winder Massey does hereby further covenant for himself and his heirs with the aforesaid Benjamin Massey that he, the said Winder Massey, or his heirs and every of them, shall and will at any time or times hereafter at the request of proper cost and charges of the aforesaid Benjamin Massey or his heirs, executors, administrators, or assigns execute and acknowledge or cause to [illegible] it to be done, executed, and acknowledged, and every other such for further conveyances for the aforesaid lands and premises hereby granted or intended so to be with all their appurtenances unto the aforesaid Benjamin Massey and his heirs and assigns forever by him or them or his or their counsel learned in the law shall advise, devise, or require for the more fully and absolutely securing the aforesaid lands and premises to him, the said Benjamin Massey, his heirs, and assigns, forever in manner and form aforesaid. Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of Ephraim Vansant Cornelius Comegys On the back of the foregoing deed was the following endorsement written: Received the twenty eighth day of June eighteen hundred and eleven from Benjamin Massey, Esquire,seven hundred and ten pounds, being the consideration money of the within presents mentioned in full. Testes:Ephraim Vansant Cornelius Comegys Kent County, State of Maryland, to wit: Be it remembered that on the day of the date of the within written presents personally appeared Winder Massey, the within grantor before us, the subscribers, two of the Justices of the Peace of Kent County in the State of Maryland aforesaid, and did acknowledge the within deed of bargain and sale to be his act and deed and the lands and premises therein mentioned to be sold [to be] the right, title, and estate of the within Benjamin Massey, his heirs, and assigns, forever according to the true intent and meaning of the within indenture.
