(Recorded May 10, 1755): John Massey, planter of Queen Anne's County in
Maryland and wife Sarah Usher Massey, granddaughter of Thomas Usher and
cousin and heir of John Usher, sell for £55 a 55 acre tract
called Neglect to William
Wilshire, also a planter, of Kent County. Witnesses acting for the
Crown: Justices of the Peace, Joseph Williamson and William Ringgold;

[Kent
County, Maryland]: This indenture made this 20th day of January in the
year of our Lord seventeen hundred fifty and five between John Massey of
Queen Anne's County, planter, and Sarah his wife, granddaughter of
Thomas Usher and cousin and devisee of John Usher of the one part, and
William Wilshire of Kent County, planter of the other part. Witnesseth
that the said John Massey and Sarah his wife for and in consideration of
the sum of fifty five pounds current money of Maryland to them in hand
paid by the said William Wilshire, the receipt whereof they do hereby
knowledge, they, the said John Massey and Sarah his wife, have granted,
bargained, sold, aliened, released, and confirmed and by these presents
do grant, bargain, sell, alien, release, and confirm unto the said
William Wilshire, his heirs and assign, forever all the estate, right,
title, interest, claim, and demand which they, the said John [Massey]
and Sarah his wife, had made or can have of him and to all that tract of
land called Neglect lying on and near the head of Prickle Pear Mill
Pond in Kent County, the aforesaid granted parcel of land containing 55
acres of land more or less, together with all and singular the houses,
buildings, and improvements thereon and all profits and advantages
thereunto belonging and the reversion and reversions, remainder and
remainders, and all the estate, right, title, and demand whatsoever
either in law or equity of them, the said John Massey and Sarah his
wife, of in and to the granted parcel of land in every part thereof. To
have and to hold all [illegible] for the granted parcel of land and
premises above mentioned in every part thereof with the appurtenances
unto the said William Wilshire, his heirs and assigns, forever to the
only proper use and behoof of the said William Wilshire, his heirs and
assigns, forever and the said John Massey and his wife for themselves or
heirs and assigns doth covenant, grant to and with the said William
Wilshire, his heirs and assigns, that they, the said John Massey and
Sarah his wife, is now lawfully and rightfully seized in their own right
of good, true, and perfect estate of inheritance in fee simple of and
in all and singular said granted parcel of land and premises above
mentioned in every part thereof with the appurtenances without any
condition mortgage, [illegible] use or uses, or other matter can do or
thing to alter, change, or charge the same and also that the said John
Massey and Sarah his wife now have good rightful power and lawful
authority to grant, bargain, sell, and convey all and singular the said
granted parcel of land and premises with the appurtenances unto the said
William Wilshire, his heirs and assigns, forever to the only proper use
of him, the said William Wilshire, his heirs and assigns, forever
according to the true intent and meaning of these presents. Also the
said John Massey and Sarah his wife for themselves, their heirs, and
assigns, do further covenant, grant, to and with the said William
Wilshire, his heirs and assigns, that they, the said the John Massey and
Sarah his wife, their heirs of land granted parcel of land and premises
in every part thereof as will against them, the said John Massey and
Sarah his wife, their heirs, as well as against all and every other
person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and by these
presents forever defend unto him, the said William Wilshire, his heirs,
and assigns. In witness whereof the aforesaid parties have hereunto
interchangeably set their hands and seals the day and year first above
written.

Received of Mr. William Wilshire the sum of fifty five pounds being the
consideration within mentioned, as witness my hand this 20th day of

Received May 10th, 1755 of Mr. William Wilshire two shillings and one penny sterling as an alienation fine on the within fifty five acres of land due to the Lord Proprietary and received for his use. John Nicholson
