March 3, 1711
(Recorded May 30, 1712): Thomas Massey, planter of Kent County in
Maryland, sells for 6,000 pounds of tobacco a 150-acre tract
called Seward Hope (given to
him by Thomas Seward and lying next to a tract owned by one Parrott) to
Robert Mansfield, also a planter of Kent County. Witnesses acting
for the Crown: Edward Blay and William Comegys; Kent County clerk at the

aforesaid: This indenture made the third day of March Anno Domini one thousand seven hundred and eleven
between Thomas Massey of Kent County, planter of the one part, and Robert
Mansfield of said county planter of the other part. Witnesses that the said
Thomas Massey for and in consideration of the sum of six thousand pounds of
tobacco to him in hand already paid and secured to be paid the receipt
whereof he, the aforesaid Thomas Massey, doth hereby acknowledge and
thereof a quick discharge of aforesaid Mansfield, his heirs, executors,
administrators, and assigns, and by these presents hath given, granted,
bargained, sold, alienated, enfeoffed, and confirmed and by these presents
doth give, grant, bargain, sell, alienate, enfeoff, and confirm unto the said
Robert Mansfield, his heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns, all that
parcel of land given to me by Thomas Seward, being of one moiety of a
tract of land called Seward Hope lying in Kent County and now in the
possession and occupation of the aforesaid Robert Mansfield and next
adjoining to a parcel of land formerly laid out for one Parrott: Beginning
at a marked white oak standing by a branch side and in the line of
said Parrott's land and running with the aforesaid Parrott's [line] South East 240
perches to a marked pock hickory tree standing in the woods; from the
said tree running North East 100 perches and from the end of the North
East line, North West 240 perches to the aforesaid branch, and then with
the said branch South West 100 perches to the first bounded tree,
containing and laid out for 150 acres of land more or less, together with
all housing, fencing, orchards, woods, underwoods, and also all other
profits and privilege whatsoever of said land belonging or in any wise
appertaining. To have and to hold the aforesaid parcel of land according
to bounds aforesaid unto the aforesaid Robert Mannsfield, his heirs,
executors, administrators, and assigns, forever and thereto Thomas Massey
for himself, his heirs, executors, and administrators, [illegible] covenant [illegible]
following that he, the said Thomas Massey, is the true and lawful owner of
said premises after the aforesaid sealing and delivery of these
presents is lawfully seized[illegible] of him and his heirs, executors,
administrators, and assigns, forever and that he, the aforesaid Thomas Massey,
hath full power and lawful authority to give, grant, bargain, sell the aforesaid
premises in every part thereof to the aforesaid Robert Mansfield, his
heirs, and assigns, forever; and further that the said land is free from
all former gifts, grants, bargains, sales, jointures, dowers, rents, and
arearrages of rents whatsoever of rents and [illegible] that shall
hereafter become due to the said land [illegible] fee only excepted and
foreprized in that the said Thomas Massey [illegible] the cost and charges of the
said Robert Mansfield, his heirs and assigns, make any further assurances
of these premises as he or their counsel learned in the law
shall reasonably advise or direct; and further if the aforesaid Thomas Massey
doth for himself, his heirs, executors, administrators, covenant to and
with the said Robert Mansfield, his heirs and assigns, that he shall and
may from henceforth lawfully and quietly have, hold, occupy, possess,
and enjoy all and every part of the aforesaid parcel of land and
premises [illegible] same belonging and also may take and receive rents
and profits of the same from time to time and at all times forever after
to the only use of him the aforesaid Robert Mansfield and his heirs forever
without any let, hindrance, or disturbance of the said Thomas Massey or any
other person or persons whatsoever. In confirmation whereof the
aforesaid Thomas Massey has hereunto set his hand and seal the day and
