April 26, 1756: Thomas Massey sells for a legally enforceable bond of £100 the 100 acre tract known as Whaleys Adventure, lying in Kent County on the South side of the Cypress Branch near the head of Chester River, to John Cades and wife Margaret of Kent County. Thomas Massey can stay in full possession and occupy the land and may keep it if the bond is not discharged. Courses: Beginning at the South East corner of Fair Dealing, and running thence West South West one hundred and forty perches, then South one hundred and twenty perches, then East North East [one] hundred and forty perches, then with a straight line to the beginning. Thomas Gould attested to the validity of John Cades' signature. Acting for the Crown: Justice of the Peace S[imon] Wilmer; James Smith is Kent County clerk. |

[illegible]: Know all men by these presents that I, John Cades, late of
Kent County, am held and firmly bound unto Thomas Massey of the said
County [illegible] his heirs executors administrators or assigns the
just and full sum of one hundred pounds current lawful money of the said
province to the which payment well and truly to be made and done I find
myself my heirs executors administrators firmly in the whole and for
[illegible] sealed with my seal and dated this third day of October Anno
Domini 1746 and the condition of these obligations is such that if the
above found in John Cades and Margaret his wife will hereafter upon the
reasonable request at the proper cost and charges in the law whatsoever
of the above Thomas Massey his heirs and assigns by such act and like
thing and things conveyances and assurances in the law whatsoever as by
his said Thomas Massey his heirs or assigns or his or their counsel
learned in the law shall be reasonably devised advised or required
sufficiently [illegible] grant convey assure and make over in open court
or otherwise at the law of this province regime unto him the said
Thomas Massey his heirs and assigns by and in a general warrant all the
right title and interest claim and property and demand that he the said
John Cades and Margaret his wife now has shall or may thereafter have
into one hundred acres of land known by the name of Whaley's Adventure
lying and being in Kent County and on the south side of a branch called
the Cypress Branch near the head of Chester River beginning at the South
East corner of Fair Dealing and from the said South East corner of Fair
Dealing and running thence West Southwest one hundred forty perches
thence South one hundred twenty perches then East Northeast one hundred
forty perches then with a straight line to the first beginning
containing and now laid out for one hundred acres of land more or less
together with all houses buildings and appurtenances whatsoever upon the
said tract or parcel of land one hundred acres belonging or in any wise
appertaining well and truly and efficiently saved and kept [illegible]
of and from all manner or of former bargains sales titles gifts grants
leases and mortgages whatsoever had made suffered committed or done by
the said John Cades or Margaret his wife and in the meantime suffer
allow and permit the said Thomas Massey his heirs executors
administrators or assigns to be in full and actual possession of the
said hundred acres of land thereof to use occupy [illegible] and enjoy
the same and to take and [illegible] in the rents issues and profits
every thereof to his and their own proper use benefit and [illegible]
without any manner of impeachment for [illegible] and damages and a full
and ample manner as if the same had been now legally conveyed and made
over than this obligation to be void and of none effect other
[illegible] to be and remain in full force and virtue in law.
