November 21, 1766: Ebenezer Massey, farmer of Kent County, buys for £100 three tracts of land, i.e., The Exchange, The Slippe Alongside of Massey's Venture, and Massey's Venture, from Joseph Massey, also a farmer of Kent County. Witnesses: R. Frisby and J. Maxwell. Acting for the Crown: R. Frisby, J. Maxwell and J.W. Hall; Kent County Clerk is Dan Dulany. This
indenture made the nineteenth day of August in the year of our Lord one
thousand seven hundred and sixty six between Joseph Massey of Kent
County, farmer of the one part, and Ebenezer Massey of the same place,
farmer of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Joseph Massey for and
in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds current money by the
aforesaid Ebenezer Massey to him the said Joseph Massey in hand paid at
or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof
he doth hereby acknowledge and thereof and therefrom and of and from
every part and parcel thereof thus hereby release, acquit, and discharge
the said Ebenezer Massey, his heirs, and assigns, have granted,
bargained,
sold aliened, enfeoffed, confirmed, and by these presents doth grant,
bargain, sell, alien, enfeoff, and confirm unto him, the said Ebenezer
Massey, his
heirs, and assigns, all that undivided moeity of a tract of land called
The Exchange, all that undivided moeity of a tract of land called The
Slippe Alongside of Massey's Venture, and all that undivided moeity of
part of a tract of land called Massey's Venture, lying on the East side
next adjoining onto a parcel of land belonging onto Nicholas Massey
called The Exchange, all and every of the said parcels of land situate
lying and being in Kent County aforesaid together with all ways, waters,
watercourses, commodities, improvements, profits, privileges,
advantages, and
appurtenances whatsoever to the aforesaid parcels of land belonging as
it anywise appertaining, and the reversion and reversions, remainder and
remainders, rents, issues, and profits thereof and all the estate,
right,
title, interest, used trust, property, claim, and demand whatsoever of
him
the said Joseph Massey of into or out of the said premises with the
appurtenances. To have and to hold the aforesaid parcels of land and
premises hereby bargained and sold, meant, mentioned, or intended to be
so to be with the appurtenances unto him, the said Ebenezer Massey, his
heirs, and assigns, to the only proper use and behoof of the said Ebenezer Massey, his heirs, and assigns, forever and to his sure other use, intent, or purpose whatsoever and the said Joseph Massey for himself, his heirs, executors, administrators, and for every of them doth covenant, promise, and grant to and with the said Ebenezer Massey and his heirs by these presents that he, the said Joseph Massey, shall and will from time to time and all times hereafter at and upon the reasonable request of the said Ebenezer Massey, his heirs, executors, or administrators to make, levy, execute, acknowledge and suffer or cause to be done, made, levied, executed, and acknowledged and suffered all and every such further and other reasonable act, acts, thing and things, assurance and assurances, and conveyances in the law whatsoever for the further, better, and more perfect assuring, selling, and confirming of all and singular the premises herein before mentioned or any part thereof to the use, intents, and purposes herein before expressed concerning the same be it by fine or fines, enfeoffment or feoffments, and recovery or recoveries, with single, double, or treble voucher or vouchers, deed or deeds, intended, or sold, release for confirmation or otherwise howsoever as by the said Ebenezer Massey or his heirs or either of their counselors learned in the law shall be reasonably devised, advised, or required. Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of R. Frisby J. Maxwell August 19, 1766. Came the within named Joseph Massey before us, the subscribers, two of his Lordship's Justices of the Peace for Kent County, and acknowledged the within instrument of writing to be his act and deed and the lands and the premises within mentioned to be the right and estate of the within named Ebenezer Massey according to the true intent and meaning of same deed.

Witness:J. Maxwell Received June 3, 1767 of Ebenezer Massey four shillings and six pence sterling as an alienation fine on the within land supposed to be one hundred twelve acres and half an acre due to the Lord proprietary and receipt for his use. J.W. Hall
