Nicholas Massey's patent of "Nicholas's Lott"

November 28, 1677: Nicholas Massey patents 50 acres, to be called Nicholas's Lott (or Nicholas's Point or Nanticoke Mannor) out of a 500 acre parcel granted to John Rawlings in Dorchester County, Maryland.  Thomas Pattison, Deputy Surveyor for the county, laid out the parcel.

To [illegible] Notley Esquire [illegible] Governor of the Province of Maryland. By virtue of a warrant granted unto [illegible] out of [illegible] office for six hundred acres of land [illegible] date the seventeenth day of September 1677 whereof fifty acres [illegible] Nicholas Massey [illegible] deputy [illegible] of the County of [illegible] in the Province of Maryland do in humble manner certify that [illegible] for him the said Nicholas Massey a parcel of land called Nicholas's Lott [illegible] lying on the East side of Chesapeake Bay on the East side of [illegible] Creek [illegible] out of Little Choplank River in Dorchester County aforesaid [illegible] marked oak standing by the said creek side and running for [illegible] South and [illegible] to a marked pine standing [illegible] fence running South East up the creek [illegible] perches to a marked Cedar standing on another [illegible] from thence running East North East up a cove bounded there with [illegible] to another marked cedar bounded tree of the land called [illegible] from thence with the line of the said North [illegible] perches to the first specified mark [illegible] containing and now laid out for 50 acres more or less [illegible] of Nanticoke.

Charles etc. to all persons to [illegible] these presents. Greeting. In our Lord God everlasting know ye that we for and in our consideration that Nicholas Massey of Dorchester County in our said Province of Maryland hath due unto him fifty acres [illegible] by aforesaid from John Rawlings part of a warrant for six hundred acres granted to said Rawlings the seventeenth day of September Anno Domini 1677 as appears upon record upon such conditions [illegible] as [illegible] of our late father Cecelia's of [illegible] under his great seal at arms bearing date at Soudon the second day of July anno Domini 1649 with such alterations as in them is made by his declaration bearing date the two and twentieth day of September Anno Domini 1658 and remaining upon record in our said province of Maryland do hereby grant unto him the said Nicholas Massey all [In margin is written:
Nanticoke Mannor -  Rent 2 Sh.Sterl.] that parcel of land called Nicholas's Point lying on the East side of Chesapeake Bay on the East side of Fishing Creek that flows out of little Choplank River in Dorchester County aforesaid. Beginning at a marked oak standing by the said creek side and running from thence South by West fifty six perches to a marked pine standing on a point of the said creek from thence running South East up the creek bounded [illegible] ninety seven perches to a marked cedar standing on another point from thence running East North East up a cove bounded there with ninety perches to another marked cedar bounded tree of the land called Cedar Point and running from thence to the line of the said land Nort West and by West one hundred sixty six perches to the first specified marked oak containing and now laid out for fifty acres more or less together with all rights profits and benefits thereunto belonging [illegible] Royal mines excepted. To have and to hold the same unto him the said Nicholas Massey, his heirs and assigns forever. To beholden of us and our heirs as of our Manor of Nanticoke in free in common soccage by fealty only for all manner of services yielding and paying therefore yearly [illegible] to us in our heirs at our receipt at our city of St. Mary's at the two most usual feasts in the year viz.: At the feast of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the feast of St. Michael the Archangel by even and equal portions the rent of two shillings sterling silver or gold. For a fine upon every alien of the said land and/or of every any part or parcel thereof one whole years rent in silver or gold or the full value thereof in such commodities as we, our heirs or such officer or officers appointed by us or our heirs from time to time to collect and receive the same shall accept a discharge thereof at the choice of us and our heirs or such officer or officers as aforesaid provided that if the said Nicholas Massey, his heirs or assigns, shall not pay unto us [illegible] or such officer or officers as of this said sum for a fine for [illegible] the said alienation upon record either in the [illegible] in the Provincial Court or County Court where the tract of land lieth within the [illegible] after such alienations. Alienation shall be void and of no [illegible]. Given at our City of St. Mary's under the great seal of our said Province of Maryland the eighth day of May in the fourth year of our [illegible] and [illegible] one thousand six hundred seventy and nine.
