Nicholas and Josias Massey's patent of "The Outlett" October 10, 1695

October 10, 1695: Nicholas and Josias Massey patent 110 acres, called The Outlett, out of a 1,000 acre tract granted to John Taylor the previous year.  Acting for the Crown: Henry Darnall ... [the deed is incomplete - GL,III, ed.]
Their aforesaid: I do hereby assign onto Nicholas and Josias Massey and heirs one hundred and ten acres of land out of warrant for one thousand acres granted me the eighth day of October 1694. To have and to hold the same unto them the said Nicholas and Josias Massey, their heirs, and assigns, forever as witness my hand and seal this 25th day of November 1694.

: Charles etc. to all etc.: Know ye that for and in consideration that Nicholas and Josias Massey both of Dorchester County in our said province of Maryland has due unto them one hundred and ten acres of land within our said province being due under them the said Nicholas and Josias by assignment of that quantity from John Taylor out of a warrant for one thousand acres granted to the said Taylor the eighth day of October 1694 as appears in our land office and upon such conditions and terms as are expressed in our conditions of plantation of our said province bearing date the fifth day of April 1684 and remaining upon record in our said province of Maryland. We do therefore hereby grant under them the said Nicholas and Josias Massey all that tract or parcel of land called The Outlett lying in Dorchester County and at the head of Garthers Creek. Beginning at a bounded red oak and running thence South South East forty perches to another marked red oak thence South West forty eight perches thence South South West four hundred perches thence North North West fifty six perches and thence North North East three hundred and sixty six perches and from thence by a straight line to the first bound tree, containing and now laid out for one hundred and ten acres of land more or less according to the certificate of survey thereof taken and returned into our land office bearing date the 25th day of November 1695, there remaining together with all rights, profits, benefits, and privileges thereunto belonging, Royal mines excepted. To have and to hold the same unto them the said Nicholas and Josias Massey, their heirs, and assigns, forever to beholden of us and ourselves and our heirs as of our Manor of Nanticoke in free and common soccage by fealty only for all manner of services yielding and paying therefore yearly unto us and our heirs at our receipt at our city of St. Mary's at the two most usual feasts in the year viz.: the feasts of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and of St. Michael the Archangel by even and equal portions the rent or sum of eight shillings and five pence sterling silver or gold and for a fine upon every alienation of the said land or any part or parcel thereof one whole year's rent in silver or gold or the full value thereof in such commodities as we and our heirs or such officer or officers as shall be appointed by us and our heirs from time to time to collect and receive the same shall accept in discharge thereof at the choice of us and our heirs etc. provided that if the said sum for a fine for alienation shall not be paid unto us and our heirs etc. before such alienation and the said alienation entered upon record either in the Provincial Court or in the County Court where the same parcel of land lieth within one month next after such alienation the said alienation shall be void and of no effect given under our greater seal at arms this tenth day of October 1695. Witness our trusty and well beloved Col. Henry Darnall, keeper of our said greater seal in our said Province of Maryland.

Frances Anderton certifies 108 acres;

Anderton's Point

By virtue of an assignment from John Taylor onto Frances Anderton for one hundred and eight acres part of a warrant granted unto his Lord's office for one thousand acres of land bearing date the sixth day of December 1695. I, John Taylor, Deputy Surveyor under Capt. Richard Smith his Lordship's Surveyor General, do humbly certify that I have laid out for the said Frances Anderton the tract of land called Anderton's Point on the East side of Chesapeake Bay and on the South side of Choptank River beginning at a bounded white oak standing by a creekside called Secretary's Creek side and from thence runs North West two hundred and forty perches to the said river of Choptank thence running South South West with the river one hundred and fifteen perches thence South and by East with the said river fifty four perches thence by a straight line to the first tree, containing and now laid out for one hundred and eight acres more or less. To beholden of the Manor of Nanticoke.
