3, 1745: Peter Massey, Jr. of Kent County in Maryland for 6,200 pounds
of tobacco buys a 140 acre tract of land called Johnson's Adventure with
Massey's Hazard from Peter Massey, Sr. planter, and wife Jane (Jean),
Nicholas Massey, planter, and wife Katherine, and James Massey and wife

Anne's County aforesaid. March the third day, Anno Domini one thousand
seven hundred and forty five the following deed was brought to be
recorded, viz.: This indenture made this eighth day of November in the year of our Lord [illegible] one thousand seven hundred and forty five between Peter Massey, Senior of Kent County in the said province of Maryland, planter, and Jane his wife and Nicholas Massey, Senior, planter of the said county and province aforesaid, and Katherine his wife, and James Massey of Queen Anne's County of the said province, planter, and Rachel his wife of the one part and Peter Massey Junior of Kent County in the province aforesaid, carpenter of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Peter Massey and Jane his wife and Nicholas Massey and Katherine his wife and James Massey and Rachel his wife for and in consideration of the sum of six thousand two hundred pounds tobacco to them in hand paid, receipt whereof they do acknowledge and [illegible] themselves to be fully satisfied, contented, and paid. do hereby discharge the said Peter Massey, his heirs, executors, and administrators, thereof forever. Have given, granted, bargained, sold, aliened, released, confirmed, and for themselves, each of them their each of their heirs by these presents to grant, bargain, sell, alien, enfeoff, confirm unto the same Peter Massey his heirs and assigns forever a tract or parcel of land called Johnson's Adventure with Massey's Hazard situate and being in Queen Anne's County in province aforesaid. Beginning at a bounded white oak on the north side of the branch called the Unicorn Branch and running thence South four hundred forty two perches thence West twenty degrees North fifty perches thence North five degrees West one hundred and sixteen perches then West forty four perches then with a straight line to the first beginning white oak containing and now laid out for one hundred and forty acres of land more or less. Together with all and singular of improvements and appurtenances of whatever kinds thereunto belonging or appertaining and also all the right, title, interest, claim, and demand of them the said Peter Massey and Jane his wife, Nicholas Massey and Katherine his wife, James Massey and Rachel his wife, their heirs, executors, and administrators of all and singular of the before granted premises with the whole of the aforesaid appurtenances as it particularly named unto the said Peter Massey, Junior, his heirs and assigns forever. To have and to hold the same from the date hereof onto their own proper use behoof that he, his heirs, and assigns may use and occupy the said land without any manner of hindrance whatsoever of they the said Peter Massey and Jane his wife, and Nicholas Massey and Katherine his wife, and James Massey and Rachel his wife, their heirs, executors, and administrators, and further the said Peter Massey and Jane his wife, Nicholas Massey and Katherine his wife, and James Massey and Rachel his wife covenant and agree to and with the said Peter Massey, Junior, his heirs and assigns forever hereafter to warrant and defend the before granted hundred and forty acres of land with the whole of their appurtenances unto the said Peter Massey, Junior, his heirs and assigns against all persons claiming any part of the same by from or under them the said Peter Massey and Jane his wife, Nicholas Massey and Katherine his wife, James Massey and Rachel his wife, their heirs, executors, administrators and assigns forever and further that the said Peter Massey and Jane his wife, and Nicholas Massey and Katherine his wife, and James Massey and Rachel his wife, their heirs, executors, administrators shall and will at any time hereafter at the reasonable request of the said Peter Massey, Junior, his proper cost and charges in the law to perform or cause to be performed any other deed for the better and sure marking of the premises unto the said Peter Massey, Junior, his heirs and assigns, as by his counsel learned in the law shall be advised and required. In witness whereof the parties to these presents have set their hands and seals this day and year above written. Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of James Brown and H Wells Junior
On the back of the foregoing deed was endorsed as followeth viz.: Received of Peter Massey, Junior, the sum of six thousand two hundred pounds of tobacco in full consideration of the within bargained promises as witness our hands this eighth day of November Anno Domini 1745. On the back of the same deed was also endorsed viz.:
Be it remembered that on the eighth day
of November Anno Domini 1745 the within named Peter Massey and Jane his
wife, and Nicholas Massey and Katherine his wife, and James Massey and
Rachel his wife personally appeared before us, two of his Lordship's
Justices for Queen Anne's County, and did acknowledge the within deed
and the hands and promises there specified to be granted and conveyed
to be the right and property of the within named Peter Massey, Junior,
his heirs and assigns forever, also Jane and Katherine and Rachel, the
wives of the above named Peter, Nicholas, and James, being first
privately examined according to law.

On the back of same deed was also thus further endorsed viz.: Queen Anne's County [illegible] March 3rd day Anno Domini 1745 Received from the within named Peter Massey, Junior the sum of five shillings and seven pence [illegible] for the alienation fine on the within land due to the right Hon. the Lord Proprietary of the Province of Maryland and for his use.
