March 31, 1761: James Massey, Sr. of Queen Anne's County in Maryland  patents Massey's Part of Friendship Corrected, now totalling 211 acres.  Acting for the Crown: Edward Lloyd and Horatio Sharpe.

Frederick etc. Know ye that whereas James Massey, Senior, of Queen Anne's County by his humble petition to our Agents for Management of Land Affairs within this province did set forth that he was seized in fee of and in one hundred and fifteen acres, part of a tract or parcel of land called Friendship lying and being in the county aforesaid. Originally on the tenth day of October Anno Domini seventeen hundred and thirty two, granted unto Col. William Tilghman for five hundred and twenty acres under new rent contiguous to which the petitioner had discovered some vacant land and being desirous to add the same humbly prayed a special warrant to resurvey his part of the aforesaid tract for that intent and purpose and that on return of a certificate of such resurvey he, making good rights to the vacancy added, and complying with all other requisites usual in such cases, might have our grant of confirmation issue unto him thereon which was granted him and accordingly a warrant on the fifteenth day of February seventeen hundred and sixty unto him for that purpose did issue in pursuance whereof it is certified into our land office that his part of the aforesaid tract or parcel of land is resurveyed by which it appears the same contains the quantity of one hundred and thirty three acres so that there appears to be eighteen acres of surplus included and that there is the quantity of twenty eight acres of vacant land added for which said surplus included and vacancy added he has paid and satisfied unto Edward Lloyd, Esquire our present Agent and Receiver General for our rise[?] as well the sum of eighteen shillings sterling for the said surplus as the sum of 3 pounds eighteen shillings sterling for the said vacancy according to Charles Lord, Baron of Baltimore, our Great Grandfather of noble memory, his instructions to Charles Carroll, Esquire, his then agent bearing date at London the twelfth day of September seventeen hundred and twelve and registered in our Secretary's Office of our said province, together with the paragraph of our Dear Father's instructions bearing date at London the fifteenth day of December seventeen hundred and thirty eight and registered in our land office, also by our instructions bearing date at London the seventeenth day of January seventeen hundred and fifty six. We do therefore hereby grant and confirm unto him the said James Massey, Senior, all that his part of the aforesaid tract or parcel of land now resurveyed with the surplus included and vacancy added reduced into one entire tract and now called Massey's Part of Friendship Corrected lying and being in the county aforesaid. Beginning at the aforesaid locust post marked {IM}and standing in the East North East line of part of said tract of land sold by Thomas Hynson Wright to James Massey Senior and run from said locust post West South West one hundred and thirty two perches and North nine degrees West eighty eight perches West South West one hundred and thirty four perches and South six degrees East twenty eight perches and East North East one hundred and nine perches and South nine degrees East one hundred and seventy four perches and South East forty seven perches and South West one hundred and six perches and South fifty four degrees East seventeen perches and North East one hundred and seven perches and South East twenty two perches and North East twenty perches and North four degrees East twenty one perches and North West twenty eight perches and North seventy four degrees East one hundred and thirty two perches and North fifteen degrees and thirty minutes West one hundred and eight perches and West South West sixteen perches and from thence with a straight line to the aforesaid beginning locust post containing and now laid out for two hundred and eleven acres of land more or less according to the certificate of survey thereof taken and returned into our said office bearing date the first day of August seventeen hundred and sixty and there remaining together with all rights, profits, benefits, and privileges thereunto belonging, Royal mines excepted.  To have and to hold the same unto him the said James Massey, Senior, his heirs and assigns forever to be holden of us and our heirs as of our Manor of Baltimore in free and common soccage by fealty only for all manner of services yielding and paying therefor yearly unto us and our heirs at our receipt and our city of St. Mary's at the two most usual feasts in the year viz.: The feasts of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Michael the Archangel by even and equal portions the rent of eight shillings and five pence halfpenny sterling in silver or gold and for a fine upon every alienation of the said land or any part or parcel thereof one whole year's rent in silver or gold on the full value thereof in such commodities as we and our heirs or such officer or officers as shall be appointed by us and our heirs from time to time to collect and receive the same shall accept and discharge thereof at the choice of us and our heirs or such officer or officers aforesaid provided that if the said sum for a fine for alienation shall not be paid unto us and our heirs or such officer or officers aforesaid before such alienation and the said alienation entered upon record either in the Provincial Court or County Court where the same parcel of land lieth within one month next after such alienation then the said alienation shall be void and of no effect.  Given under our Great Seal of our said Province of Maryland this thirty first day of March Anno Domini seventeen hundred and sixty one.  Witness our trusty and well beloved Horatio Sharpe, Esquire, Lieut. Gen. and Chief Governor of our said Province of Maryland and Chancellor and Keeper of the Great Seal thereof.
