June 9, 1758: Henry Clark,
planter, of Kent County in Maryland buys for 20 pounds (paid to Peter
Massey, father of Daniel) a 50 acre parcel called London Bridge (Renewed) from Daniel Massey and wife Mary. Witnesses: J. Wilmer, Nicholas Smith. Acting for the Crown: Joseph Nicholson; James Smith, Kent County Clerk. |
This
indenture made this twenty third
day of January one thousand seven hundred and fifty between Daniel
Massey of Kent County in the
province of Maryland, inholder of the one part and Henry Clark of the of
the aforesaid place planter of the other part. Witnesseth that the said
Daniel for and in consideration of the sum of twenty
pounds paid to his father Peter Massey by a certain John Clark, father
of
the aforesaid Henry for a certain quantity of fifty acres of land sold
by
the said Peter to the same [illegible] to be part of a tract of land
called London Bridge may more fully appear by a deed recorded in Kent
County records, which land has since been found vacant. Now the same
Daniel having taken up the same land and complied with all requirements
having his Lordships patent of confirmation for the said land and being
willing to do acquaint and justice to the same Henry doth by these
presents rent, bargain, sell, alienate, enfeoff, and confirm unto this
said Henry Clark the aforesaid land, being part of a tract or parcel of
land now called London Bridge Renewed. Beginning at the North East
corner of said land and being the North corner of the land formerly
called London Bridge and running
from thence South West fifty two perches than North West one hundred and
forty four perches then North
East fifty two perches then to East one hundred forty four perches to
the first place of
beginning, containing and now laid out for fifty acres of land more or
less,
together with all profits, improvements, and appurtenances, shall
forever
the same belonging or in any way
appertaining thereupon, [reversion] and reversions, remainder and
remainders, of all
and singular the before granted premises under the said Henry Clark, his
heirs for evermore. To have and to hold the before [illegible] granted
premises and every part and parcel thereof under the said Henry, his
heirs, and assigns, forever to the only proper use of behoof of him
[illegible] Henry Clark, his heirs, and assigns, forevermore and further
that the
aforesaid Daniel Massey doth for [illegible] heirs, executors, and
administrators, [illegible] and agrees to and with him the said Henry
that he the aforesaid Daniel, his heirs, executors, and
administrators, and every of them that shall and will at any time
thereafter or request with and charges of him the said Henry, his
heirs, or assigns in the law of the said Henry,his heirs, or assigns
make, do, acknowledge and execute or cause to be done, acknowledged, and
executed any other deed or conveyance for the more better sure and
perfect conveying of the same land as by the said Henry,
his heirs, or assigns, or his heirs' counsel learned in the law shall
be in
that behalf lawfully and reasonably [illegible], advised or requested
as [
illegible] that to the said Daniel Massey, his heirs, executors, and
administrators, the same tract or parcel [illegible] before granted
shall and will warrant and forever defend against the claim and
[illegible]
person or persons claiming or hereafter to claim by from or under
him the said Daniel Massey. In witness whereof the said Daniel has to
this present indenture set his hand and seal the day and year first

S.Wilmer and Nicholas Smith Be it remembered that on the 23rd day of January one thousand seven hundred and fifty eight came the within named Daniel Massey and Mary his wife and did acknowledge the within deed and the lands and premises and everything therein contained to be the estate, right, title, of the within Henry Clark, his heirs, and assigns, forever and also that Mary, wife of the same Daniel was first privately examined according to law before us, two of His Lordship's Justices of the Peace for Kent County. Nicholas Smith
Received June 9, 1758 of Henry Clark: two shillings sterling as an
alienation fine on the within land due to the Lord Proprietary and
recorded for his use.
