September 27, 1787: Joseph Parsons of (Kent) County in Maryland buys for 900 pounds a 308.5 acre parcel called Hope Resurveyed and Mier's Luck from Abednago Massey and Elisha Massey. Witnesses: John Thomas and James Henry. Ben Chambers is Kent County Clerk. |
This
indenture made this
seventh day of September in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand
seven hundred and eighty seven. Between Abednago Massey and Elisha
Massey of the county and state of Maryland of
the one part and Joseph Parsons of Kent County and state aforesaid of
the other part. Witnesseth that the aforesaid Abednago Massey and Elisha
Massey for and in consideration of the sum of nine hundred pounds
current
money to them in hand paid by the said Joseph Parsons the receipt
whereof the said Abednago Massey and Elisha Massey doth hereby
acknowledge thereof doth hereby exonerate and discharge the said
Joseph Parsons, his heirs, executors, and administrators forever more.
Hath granted, bargained, sold, aliened, released, and confirmed
and by these presents doth grant, bargain, sell, alien, release, and
confirm
unto him the aforesaid Joseph Parsons, his heirs, and assigns, all that
part
of a tract of land called the Hope Resurveyed and Mier's Luck. Beginning
at a marked black oak standing at the end of the South East and dividing
line of the original tract of the Hope and being the beginning of
Mier's Resurvey and running from thence North fifty and a half degrees
West two hundred and six perches
then North fifty eight degrees East sixty eight perches then West one
hundred and seventy two perches then Northeast eleven perches them East
fourteen perches thence South one hundred and seventy four perches then
West by
North eighteen perches and South by West one hundred and fifty two
[perches] then West fifty four perches then North
West by West one hundred and thirty two perches and from thence in a
straight line to the first
beginning, containing and now laid out for three hundred and eight and a
half acres of land
together with all and all manner of improvements, profits, and
advantages
whatsoever to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining and the
reversion and reversions, remainder and remainders of all and singular
of the
before granted premises and every part and parcel thereof above
granted under him the said Joseph Parsons, him, his heirs or his assigns
forever more. To have and to hold the before granted premises in
every
part and parcel thereof above granted unto this said Joseph Parsons and
him, his heirs, or assigns, forevermore to the only property and behoof
of
the said Joseph Parsons, his heirs, and assigns, forevermore and further
the
aforesaid Abednago Massey and Elisha Massey doth for themselves, their
heirs, executors, and administrators covenant, grant, and agree to and
with him
the said Joseph Parsons, him, his heirs, or assigns, in manner and form
following, that is to say, that they the said Abednago Massey and Elisha
Massey, they, their heirs, executors, and administrators and every of
them shall and will at any time hereafter at the request, cost and
charges in the law of him the said Joseph Parsons, his heirs, or
assigns,
make, do, and acknowledge and execute, or cause to be made, done, or
executed
all and every such other and further lawful and reasonable act and
acts,
thing and things, devices, conveyances, and assurances in the law
whatsoever for the further and better more perfect and absolute
conveying and assuring the premises with the appurtenances above granted
and every part and parcel thereunto the said Joseph Parsons, his heirs
or assigns, forever more as by him Joseph Parsons, him, or his heirs, or
assigns, or their or his counsel learned in the law shall be in that
behalf reasonably or lawfully devised, advised, or required, and
also that
they the said Abednago Massey and Elisha Massey, they, and their heirs,
executors, and administrators, the said tract or parcel of land with its
appurtenances and every part in parcel thereof above granted unto the
said Joseph Parsons, his heirs, or assigns, against the claim and
demand of
all persons whomsoever claiming by from or under them the said Abednago
Massey and Elisha Massey, their heirs, or assigns, shall and will
warrant and
forever defend. In witness whereof the said Abednago Massey and Elisha
Massey hath set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year
above written.
It remembered that on the seventh day of September 1781 the within named Abednago Massey and Elisha Massey, the within mentioned grantors, and did acknowledge the within deed to be their act and deed and the lands and premises therein mentioned to be the right, title, and estate of him the within named Joseph according to the true intent and meaning thereof before us, the subscribers, two of the Justices of the Peace for Kent County.
