Anne's County aforesaid. November the twenty fourth day Anno Domini one
thousand seven hundred and twenty six. Then a deed of sale was brought
to be recorded the tenor whereof is as followeth, viz.: Maryland aforesaid. This indenture made the twenty third day of November in the year of the reign of our most Gracious Sovereign Lord George by the grace of God of Great Britain, France, & Ireland, King, defender of the faith [illegible] in the year of our Lord God one thousand seven hundred and twenty six. Between Thomas Hynson Wright of Queen Anne's County and Province of Maryland and Mary his wife of the one part and James Massey of the same county and province, planter of the other part. Witnesseth that the aforesaid Thomas Hynson Wright for and in consideration of the sum of five thousand five hundred pounds of good sound merchantable leaves the tobacco him in hand paid or secured to be paid by the aforesaid James Massey the receipt whereof the aforesaid Thomas Hynson Wright and Mary his wife doth acknowledge of thereof of every part and parcel thereof themselves to be fully satisfied, contented, and paid of every part and parcel thereof to the acquit, exonerate, and discharge the aforesaid James Massey, his heirs and assigns, forever by these presents. Hath given, granted, bargained, sold, aliened, enfeoffed, and confirmed and by these presents doth fully, clearly, and absolutely give, grant, bargain, sell, alien, enfeoff, and confirm unto the aforesaid James Massey, his heirs and assigns, forever of a tract of land called Friendship, situated lying, and being in Queen Anne's County on the South side of the Unicorn Branch, beginning at a small white oak marked with the sign of six notches, that is, three and three opposed, and running thence West South West two hundred and twenty four perches, thence South ten degrees East eighty one perches, thence East North East two hundred and ten perches, then North thirty seven degrees West fifty one perches, thence North thirty seven degrees East fifty eight perches, thence straight to the aforesaid white oak marked with six notches as aforesaid, containing and now laid out for one hundred acres of land, together with all woods, underwoods, trees, timber trees, houses, outhouses, fences, porches, [illegible], ways, water, and water courses, all and singular other the rights, benefits, profits, privileges, and advantages to the same bargained premises belonging or in any ways appertaining. To have and to hold the aforesaid bargained premises with the appurtenances of every part and parcel thereon to the aforesaid James Massey, his heirs and assigns, forevermore and the aforesaid Thomas Hynson Wright and Mary his wife for themselves and their heirs doth covenant, grant and agree to and with the aforesaid James Massey, his heirs and assigns, that they the aforesaid Thomas Hynson Wright and Mary his wife at the sealing and delivery heresofar stand lawfully seized of a good, true, perfect, estate in free and common soccage and that the above bargained premises and every part and parcel there of are free and clear of and from all manner of former other gifts, grants, bargains, sales, leases, jointures, dower, or title of dour rights, or arrearages of rents, fines, forfeitures, mortgages, [illegible], entails, or amercoments whatsoever, had made, committed, or done, or suffered to be done by the aforesaid Thomas Hynson Wright and Mary his wife or their heirs or by any other person or persons whatsoever [illegible] rents and services from henceforth growing due and payable to the Chief Lord or Lords of the fees only accepted and foreprized of the aforesaid, Thomas Hynson Wright and Mary his wife or their heirs doth forever quitclaim and release all right, title, and interest they now have or of right might or ought to have by any ways or means and that the same is by these presents wholly released, invested in and upon the aforesaid James Massey, his heirs and assigns, forever the aforesaid Thomas Hynson Wright and and Mary his wife that covenant, grant, and agree to and with the aforesaid James Massey, his heirs and assigns, the aforesaid Thomas Hynson Wright and Mary his wife, their heirs the above bargained premises and every part and parcel thereof shall and will forever warrant and defend against them and their heirs against all manner of persons whatsoever. Sealed and delivered Mary Wright {seal} in the presence of Augustus Thompson Humphrey Wells Memorandum: On the back of the foregoing deed of sale is endorsed as followeth thus: Queen Anne's County aforesaid. Be it remembered that on the twenty third day of November Anno Domini one thousand seven hundred and twenty six personally appeared before us, the subscribers, two of his Lordship's Justices of Queen Anne's County aforesaid, the within Thomas Hynson Wright and acknowledged the within deed of lands and premises within mentioned to be his act and deed. On the same day came Mary Wright, wife of the within Thomas Hynson Wright aforesaid. Mary, being first privately examined according to law, did freely and willingly and without being induced thereto by fears or threats of or ill usage by her said husband or fear of his displeasure acknowledged the within land and premises mentioned in the within deed to be her act and deed to and for the use within mentioned.
