Excursi - Collateral Families
Female Ancestral Lines  An ever-present problem in genealogical recearch is discovering the surname of a wife.  It is common practice in genealogies to use an excursus to carry back the ancestral line of a wife where research has made this possible, thus saving other researchers this very difficult task.  Many of the following excurses thus preserve the results of difficult research work.
Descendants To make this book more useful and to extend its value to Massey descendants with surnames other than Massey, we use an excursus to carry forward in times these many surnames.  Again, our intent is to preserve research work already accomplished.
Unpublished material  In the process of creating an excursus we preserve in considerable detail the material that our research has unearthed.  We then attempt to link our work to a genealogy or genealogical article already in print and available.  We avoid, as much as possible, duplication of material already published.  In some cases we have uncovered new material which we then add to published material.  And, in some cases, we have been able to contribute to the genealogical world, worked-out and documented family lines that are totally new and unpublished.  We have taken great pains to include every detail that has come to our attention in these cases, and we offer our results to aid further researchers.

1
Family names in italics have no specific references in the text of Langford On Massey, but may be of use in following the family lines through allied families, marriages, and the like.
2
Excursus Toas is enumerated "XVIV" in the text of Langford On Massey
3
I have not yet found any Excursus numbers for the alphabetically listed names in the three right-most columns, but data is on hand and accessible through the links - GL,III, ed.
4
All the links on this page lead to the index files for the scanned data in JPG format, but the Excurses to which there are references in the text are presented through their Langford On Massey links to searchable HTML text genealogies, which in turn are linked back to the JPG  files.
5
Two excurses, XVI and LII, have no family names yet associated with them; and no Excursus numbered higher than LXI has been found.
6
I remember seeing nearly all the unlinked or italicized family names during my transcribing of Father's handwritten excurses, and so I hope eventually to provide links from this page to those sparse genealogical data - GL,III, ed.

Under Collateral Families you will also find a page called Allied Families Data Bank with source data.
