Cast iron at 500X etched
This is a rather confusing microstructure ...

All of my photomicrographs here are at 500X.

The first photomicrograph, shown at left, has the outer edge of the original piece of cast iron at the top.

The second photomicrograph came from the center of the piece.

Here is an example of some patches of pearlite at an intermediate position.
