There are a few braces that appear now & then which look like they have ball bearing chucks. This example has a repaired chuck shell that gives such an impression.

Inadvisable use of round-shanked bits led to tightening of the chuck with a wrench, and that caused the shell to split. A piece of steel tubing was machined to fit the shell and then welded into place, producing the bulge that we see now. No ball bearings are in there now, folks; nothing to see ... don't stare ... you're just holding up traffic.
