B&D-82 Price: SOLD The jaws of this brace fit the chuck and its shell, but they came from a PEXTO brace and were patented much later by Obed Peck (U.S. Patent No. 246,904, granted September 13, 1881) about the time the Barber patent (U.S. Patent No. 42,827, granted May 24, 1864) expired. Alas, "fit" is a relative term, as the shell is quite difficult to unscrew sufficiently to examine the jaws. Fortunately, a set of Barber patent jaws would be a drop-in replacement, as the chuck is otherwise unaltered. I used "unsharp masking" in The GIMP to boost the visibility of the markings on the frame of this brace, but I can read a little more of the patent date than I can photograph well.
