Gunn & Amidon-made seven inch sweep brace with unique Amidon patented chuck.

There are tiny corrosion pits over all of this brace, but the wood is perfect, so it is clear that this brace was never used. There are no vestiges of any manufacturer's marks left, but it is interesting that Levi Gunn acted as witness to the patent drawing, because he was in partnership with Charles Amidon from 1861 to 1868 (according the Directory of American Toolmakers) before the Millers Falls Company was started; Randy Roeder's history of the Gunn & Avidon partnership says that they were indeed the maker of the present brace.

The eye-bolt on which this brace is based is extremely slim at the junction between the tapered square clearance hole, but that may be partly due to corrosion wastage.
