Head length: 6-1/2 inches; 5 inch blade. The rectangular striking face is smooth.  Length over handle & head: 13-3/4 inches.  This is a three-pound, unsymmetrical hatchet; the blade is beveled on only one side.  The handle looks old enough to be original; it has two well placed wood wedges.  The handle has no offset; the hatchet works right-handed.  The steel has never been cleaned; there is some pitting near the outer corner of the blade, affecting about 0.7 inches of the blade edge.  Otherwise, the cutting edge and striking face are both sound.
