This cold drawn alpha brass tubing failed on standing after
drawing. The magnification is 500X, and the etchant was ammonium
hydroxide - hydrogen peroxide. What is the history of this specimen ? Look here for the answer. |
It was cold worked, annealed, and then cold worked again
(note that the annealing twins are slightly distorted). The failure was by stress corrosion cracking - probably from the combination of resifual stresses from the tube-drawing operation combined with the atmosphere in the storage area. Proceed to Specimen 3. |
