Type N Spindle Nose & Chuck

This three-flat-jaw chuck is clearly stamped US Pat. Sept. 20, 1898, but  is really the September 29, 1896, William McCoy patent design. It was probably borrowed from a later No.1, 3 or 5 Millers Falls drill. It happens also to be a rather sloppy fit on the threaded spindle of the present drill.

I looked in the USPTO patent database for any chuck patented on September 20, 1898, but nothing jumped out at me.  You try; the numbers run from 611,226 down through 610,882.
