Type Pre-L Spindle Nose & Chuck

The Type Pre-L has the same two-jaw chuck as the Type L, but the example on the left has so much wear that the patent dates are barely legible.  On the right the patent date reads, Aug. 14, 1877, with the last two digits underneath the shell retainer screw.
